Shiny and the Spoon is Cincinnati’s own ukulele folk-pop duo consisting of Amber Nash and Jordan Neff. Jordan will tell you that he is “the spoon,” although Amber will tell you otherwise. Shiny and the Spoon give off the warmth and intimacy of the likes of Johnny Cash and June Carter, with a sense of humor-whether it be sardonic lyrics or door prizes. Their originals are soulful, clever, and tastefully understated. Their covers are always surprising yet strangely familiar. After making music for less than a year, Shiny and the Spoon were nominated for a 2009 Cincinnati Entertainment Award for “New Artist of the Year.” They released their debut EP in January of 2010.
"It's such a heavenly array of bluegrass/folk/Americana music that your ears won't know what to do." -Cincinnati.com
"For Shiny and the Spoon, creating a whimsical, old-timey sound involves using subtlety and simplicity as a crafty tool. Tom Waits meets Ella Fitzgerald with a ukulele in the mix. Americana/Folk/Pop with a ’20s spin." - C.A. MacConnell, CityBeat
"You can’t beat songs about leaving, saying goodbye and eating your last breakfast. Every song brings a little surprise – be it a trumpet or ukulele solo or a whistled refrain." -Laura Smith, The Smith's Occasional Blog
"Shiny and the Spoon are well on their way to wherever they want to go, preferably the big time." -CityBeat
